assault/battery

What's my rights? I'm being charged with assault. He hit me first. I was protecting myself.

As others on lawguru have mentioned, self defense is a defense to assault. You also asked about your rights, and you do have the right to a lawyer in a court proceeding, and the right to see the evidence to be used against you, the right to confront and cross examine any witnesses against you, and the right to have 12 jurors decide whether or not you're guilty of "assault".

Thats not much explanation of what happend. However, self defense is a defense to such a charge.
