Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I want to find out a couple of things regarding a convicted sex offender.

1. Where he's serving his time.

2. Was his sentence concurrent.

3. What is his projected release date.

Is this information that I can obtain? I am concerned for the safety of my grandchildren. I am not related to him but he was married to their paternal grandmother before his incarceration. If he's getting out soon I would like to know. I am certain that he will try to establish some sort of contact with them.

1) If he was convicted of a misdemeanor, he would be in the county jail. If he was sentenced to prison, you can find out by contacting the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) Prison Locator service at (916) 445-6713. You will be required to provide his full name and date of birth.

2) The Abstract of Conviction, which is part of the court file, would show the length of his sentence and any presentence credits awarded by the court.

3) The information from the Abstract of Conviction would allow you to roughly figure his release date, but you would not be able to get the current CDCR calculation, which would take into account any loss of good time credits for violation of prison rules.
