Legal Question in DUI Law in California

I have been charged with a DUI.I NEVER drive drunk. This is what happened.I was at home drinking.I took some ambien and went to sleep.Long story short.I remember only bits and pieces of the night. So bizarre. The only way i found out i had a DUI, was the barrage of mail from attorneys in my area.My question is will the judge take into account that there was no intent to drive drunk?I cant afford an atty.I am in orange county ca.The only reason i know im not insane, is i googled ambien/sleep driving. There were thousands of replies......

Maybe this would be a good time to awaken from your slumber and defend the criminal charges against you -- before you have to sleep on a metal rack with a very thin mattress. Look your case up on occourts.org to find out when you have to go to court (or find the citation you were given). Then hire a lawyer well in advance of your court date, and make sure the lawyer is standing there with you on your FIRST COURT DATE. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have more questions about the process.

If you can't afford to hire a private attorney, apply for the public defender. You need defend these criminal charges with whatever admissible evidence you may have. This is not the time to think you can play Perry Mason in the courtroom yourself.
