Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Exclusive Talent Management Contract

I signed a 2 year contract with a talent manager. Now I am not happy with the relationship and wish to terminate the contract. There is no exit clause in the contract. Is there a specific wording I must use to terminate the contract? Additionally, can I terminate the contract immediately or do I have to give 30 days notice?

Re: Exclusive Talent Management Contract

Contracts are made NOT to be broken... you may have to wait out the 2 year term. Otherwise, the manager could sue you for breach of contract.

Consult a lawyer (show him the contract, and share all the details of the relationship with the manager)... for more custom-tailored advice. There MIGHT be a a way out, but "Now, I'm not happy..." isn't going to be enough.

Like all contracts, your rights are determined by the language. If you did not have this agreement negotiated by an Entertainment Attorney from the start then you are likely stuck without recourse. You definitely need to consult an attorney to determine your rights (provide them with the contract).

Read The Friendly Contract. Or have an attorney advise you, preferably the attorney you consulted before you signed.
