Legal Question in Family Law in California

change of venue question - I am the respondent (father) in a motion to change the venue from LA county where I live, to Marin County where the petitioner (mother) and child live. If I am not going to contest the move do I need to show up in court. I have business out of town that day,

You should talk to your wife and draft up an agreement which you can enter as an order when your wife goes to court to request the change of venue.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.

It is never a good idea just to no-show a court appearance. If you consent to the change in venue, however, you should just file a stipulation. That way no one will probably have to appear in court.
