Legal Question in Family Law in California

child's attorney

I am in a high conflict custody battle. I do not have an attorney. A friend of mine asked for a court appointed attorney for their son when the court battle was dragging on and had a favorable judgement for the child. Which is what she wanted. Are there pros and cons for requesting an attorney for the child when all there is is disagreement between parents?

Usually if the minor child needs to be represented the court will appoint " minors Counsel" who will independently look out only for the minors interest not the parents. So if it is in the minors best interest to side with your friend, that is why your friend had the good result. If you are a junkie ex felon, and homeless, the minors counsel is not going to help you or anyone like that. You can also ask the court for it to appoint minors counsel but it is ultimately up to the court.
