Legal Question in Family Law in California

My "Ex" husband got a do it yourself divorce kit from and office supply store and we signed at the Notary Republic. But I don't think he ever really filed the papers. Is it possible for me to file the copied file I got from The Notary or do I have to start over again?

It is not clear what was signed and notarized, but until papers are filed with the Courts there will never be a dissolution of your marriage. I suggest that you consult with an attorney to obtain advice on how best to proceed.

Only a court can grant a dissolution of marriage, which terminates the parties' status as husband and wife, and returns them to a single status. You need to find out if anything was filed with the court, and start from there.

It doesn't sound to me like anything was done correctly, or even filed with the courts.
