Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am living in Oregon and my husband is living in California. We were married in California. Do I need to seek a divorce in California or can it be done from Oregon? Also what steps should I be taking in order to secure any assets that we share? Thanks

I'm not sure of Oregon's jurisdictional residency requirement for family law cases. In California it is at least six months in the state and at least four months in the county in which you file. You'll need to check with an Oregon attorney. Because you may be governed by Oregon law, you'll need to ask your second question of an Oregon attorney too.

It is my understanding that if your husband meets the residency requirements for a divorce, you can file a petition for dissolution in California.
