Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have been seperated for the last seven months and I'm planning on filing for divorce. The problem I have is I don't have the funds to retain an attorney. If I borrow money, would I be solely responsible to pay the loan or is this included in the review of debts and seperation of assets?

You can borrow money initially, and you will always be responsbile to pay the loan. You may be able to have your attorney have a settlement agreement where your attorney's fees are paid, or the loan paid as part of the settlement, but you will be primarily responsible for the loan.

If you have been separated seven months an Have split everything already between the two of you in a way that you both think is fair, you may be able to do this yourself with the help of your local family law facilitators office instead of taking on a debt you cannot afford. You can at least get the initial paperwork going.
