EX-roomate is keeping property of mine.says I owe money

I rented a room from someone. We both had to move because the place sold. My roomate will not return some of my personal items. Bed, leather jacket c'ds etc.. she says i owe her money. I do not feel that i do. Can she legally keep my belongings? She says she has the stuff in storage.
