Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Legal requirement for notifying an individual their check was stolen?

Recently an acquaintance of mine was notified their check was stolen. The notification didn't come until about 1 month after the check had been written and handed over.

Is there a law that states how long the holder of the check has to notify the individual whom the check belonged to that it (check) was stolen?

If so, what is the amount of time?

Thank you.
