Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

So im selling my car for $3,400 and the guy im selling it to is going to give me $2000 in cash and $250 in payments every month for 5months until the total cost is paid, now I'm going to be writing my own contract which we will both sign. My question is if he doesn't pay the full amount etc will my self written document hold up in court? Some people are telling me i have to get it notarized but I'm not sure what that is or how to do it

There is no requirement that a contract has to be notarized to be enforceable. In fact, oral contracts are also enforceable, but harder to prove than a written contract.
