Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Death Certificate No body

My wife died in a boating accident on a river. Her body has not been recovered and it is likley that she never will be, it has been nearly 6 months since the accident. I need a death certificate to take care of a lot of personal busness including our life insurance policy. What can be done to obtain one without the recavery of her body?

Re: Death Certificate No body

You should contact the Coroner's office that is handling your wife's case, or in the alternative the police officer investigating the matter. One of these two officials should be able to tell you the waiting period for a death certificate without a body. You may also want to ask if you can get a temporary death certificate in the meantime that states the probably cause of her death. They should be able to help you clear things up.

Good luck.

Sincerely,
