can i move my son to texas while he is on probation with gun charges

yes, but he MUST check with the local authorities that placed him on probation to confirm what reporting, if any, he is required to do periodically. He should also confirm what the rules of probation are for him so he does not violate them while in Texas. State systems are interconnected so what happens in Texas will be checked with California in due course.
