Legal Question in Employment Law in California

case for defamation lawsuit?

I was recently arrested while at work, I later found out that day that as soon as I left the building the store manager told everyone why I was arrested. I was also fired for being arrested, but I don't think that it was necessary for everyone within the company to know why.

I have also been looking for a new job and I had company that I applied to call me and tell me that they couldn't hire me due to what my previous bosses had told them, they told them about why I was arrested.

Is there anything I can do about this? I don't really want to sue anyone because its a big mess and its not really worth it but they won't stop telling people things.

I'm currently in the process of getting the carges against me droped and it won't matter because they will still be telling everyone stuff that doesn't matter.

Re: case for defamation lawsuit?

IF you could PROVE they are making knowingly false statements, then you could consider suing, IF you could PROVE you have been financially damaged. Them simply telling people the truth is not defamation.
