Can an employee make you wait for your final check. If so is there some type of compensation for the waiting time?

The amount of time depends on whether you were terminated or quit. But the maximum is 3 days. If the employer takes longer, you may be entitled to a penalty. But if it is only a short period of extra time, it may not be worth the hassle.
