Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Health Insurance Notice upon termimattion

I am currently a teacher on workmen's comp. in California who has been terminated as of 6/14/08. I received no notice of my health insurance terminating but when I went to the doctor on 7/2/08, I was informed my coverage has terminated. Kaiser tells me the employer called on 7/1/08 to have me discontinued-still no notice. Is there a notice requirment concerning health coverage for terminated employees?

Also, does worker's comp. have any bearing on this?

Re: Health Insurance Notice upon termimattion

Hello, it sounds like your employer violated the basic COBRA provisions that mandate notice to employees and requiring that the employee has an option to maintain uninterrupted health coverage and have the opportunity to continue paying the premium once the employer stops making the insurance payments. Just search under "COBRA" online for more information.

Thanks,
