Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Waiver Form

I am in the sales industry, recently my employer made the whole sales office sign a waiver form stating that I could not work in the same industry for six months if I were ever to terminate my employment, or be terminated. I have been working for the company for three years and was forced to sign this waiver. Is this something that is legal for my employer to make us sign even though I have worked in sales my whole career and it is all I've ever known?

Re: Waiver Form

Generally speaking non-compete agreements are unenforceable. However, there are exceptions to this rule. How can anyone be forced to sign something? If you can prove that you were forced to sign the agreement under some type of duress the agreement would again not be enforceable. If you are really concerned about the agreement and your future career alternatives then you should have a lawyer review the agreement for you.

Good Luck!
