According to California's reporting time law, an employer may send an employee home earlier than the end of the employee's work schedule, however, the employer must pay the employee at least one half of the employee's scheduled work day, at no more than 4 hours and no less than 2 hours. This means that if you are scheduled to work an 8 hour day, the employer must pay you for at least 4 hours, even if you work less than that. But if you work more than 4 hours but less than 8, they only have to pay for the time you actually worked.
