Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have been taken off the work schedule for over a week now without any explanation as to why. I cannot check our online site that has schedules due to the fact I have been taken off. I signed up for unemployment & am going to be receiving it. My question to you is I received a text from the man who sends our hours in stating I would be getting paid cash on friday not a pay check. Why would they do this? I do not belive it is legal & I do not want to mess up my unemployment.

I'm sorry you lost your job. One reason for the weird cash payment, could be that your employer is having financial difficulties and they're afraid some creditor is about to raid their bank account (or it has already happened). Demand a pay stub showing your deductions.
