Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

co-signer

I co-signed for my son to lease an apartment 5/28/05 - a one-year lease. They moved 8/7/06 and were then on a month-to-month basis. I am now in collections for $2320.97 for breaking a lease. Any help? I will see an attorney about this but i need some guidance.

Re: co-signer

I'm not sure why y'all were sued for breach of lease if they were month-to-month. Certainly, if they didn't pay rent for a couple of months, they (and you) would be on the hook for that amount. Depending on the stage of the collection effort, you might want to negotiate with the landlord's attorney, and then hit up your son to reimburse you, or dock his allowance! Feel free to provide me with more details.
