Is it required by law that a landlord tell a prospective tenant that a death occured within a unit being offered for rent?

No, although if there has been a particularly notorious, gruesome or otherwise seriously disturbing death that would materially affect the value of the property if sold, it would have to be disclosed if it was within the past five years. Arguably that analysis could be applied to a rental in some circumstances.
