Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Can I let my tenant use my snowblower?

I have a rental house in Tahoe-lots and lots of snow. Is there a problem with me letting my tenant use my snowblower or does this open me up to more liability than I can afford? And would it matter if I leased or rented it to him for the season, rather than letting him use it for free?

Any time you let someone use machinery you own there is always the possibility of liability. That doesn't change whether it is leased, rented or provided for free. At a minimum you should have the snowblower mechanically checked before turning it over, and establish a maintenance schedule for the period of use. It is a nuisance, but liability being what it is today, these issues can't be over looked.
