Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California

Major Dentist problem

I have been going to the same

dentist for the past 2o years . A few

years ago I complained about

soreness and he would give me a

shot of antibiotics for the swelling. He

recently retired . I began going to

another highly regarded dentist. Well

I have a very very bad case of gum disease which my last dentist never

mentioned or mentioned to do deep

cleanings because I have a bridge.

Because he never made these recommendations I have very

advanced gum disease.

The gum disease has become so bad

recently I had to get 7 teeth pulled. I

believe my dentist who retired this

year is to blame. What is my next

step? It has cost me a fortune for

,extracting the teeth bridges,

consutlations, x rays etc...

Thank you

Re: Major Dentist problem

Ask your current dentist if he/she believes that the periodontal disease should have been identified and addressed by your prior dentist and if he/she thinks that had that been done, the extractions and subsequent work would not have been necessary. If your current dentist does state this opinion, make sure he/she documents it in your chart.

Re: Major Dentist problem

If you get an opinion from your new dentist that this was negligence by the old dentist, then you will have grounds for a malpractice action. Consult with local counsel.
