Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

friendship

my bestfriend was driving the car that i was a passenger in. the accident was her fault. my dad instructed me to sue for compensation. i was assured by my family and lawyer that she would recieve no further penalties from me doing this. now she wont talk to me. she says i have no idea whats going on. she wont tell me whats going on either. im writing this question to find out from an outside source what really happens to her. i would be so very greatful if you could respond to this question please. thank you so much.
