Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Hit a cop

Today, while making a left hand turn a police officer tried to pass me on the left. We impacted. My car has extensive damage, and the officer went careening into a brick wall. Luckily, nobody suffered injuries. I had no idea that the car was behind me. According to several witnesses, the officer had his rotating lights on, but did not have any aural sirens. The officer was driving very fast-apparently in response to some call. I assume the officer thought I was stopping to let her pass. I did have my left hand turn signal on.

Who is at fault under California law.

Thank you

Re: Hit a cop

These cases are each determined upon the particular facts. Where was you car when it was struck, how fast was the police car going. The number of facts that must be considered are numerous. Your best approach is to discuss the facts of your case, both from your prospective and that stated in the police report to a police officer and discuss this with the attorney.
