Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Hello. My friend's artificial leg was destroyed while on the clock. The handle to a large bucket of oil broke, and the bucket fell on the foot of his prosthetic limb. It's broken beyond repair and will cost him thousands of dollars to replace. I don't see why this wouldn't be covered under workers comp, since it would have had it been his good foot that was smashed. Does anyone know of any California case law involving workers comp for an artificial limb? He's afraid to pursue it because he thinks he will be fired for making a fuss.
