Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Yesterday i was invited into the home of one of my friend's house. He lives with his roommate, who is the owner of the home, although his name is not listed on the property of the house, he pays rent to him each month and it is known by the neighbors that he lives there. His roommate came home (the home owner) and got very upset with me and asked me to leave. I was under the impression that he was joking and remained in the home. He started to become more and more angry and went over to the couch and started strangling me. My question is if he is allowed by law to do this? Like i had mentioned before his roommate pays rent monthly and he invited me into the home, also the home owner has invited me inside several times before. I understand that he owns the property and if he asks me to leave that i have to but i had no idea that he was being serious. But i want to know if his act is justified. I live in Lakewood, Colorado.
