Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

GC holder - divorce - child custody

We both(me and my husband) are green card holders, we had a baby 3 years back, naturally he is a citizen. I am a college graduate, but my husband has not allowed me to work (for 10 years now). I am thinking of divorcing him now, but i want my 3 year old boy. Does my husband has a chance of getting the boy's custody, if i divorce? Is there something i can do so that i will get the custory of my boy?

Thanks

Re: GC holder - divorce - child custody

Thank you for your inquiry. My name is Tawni Cummings, and I am one of the family law attorneys with The Harris Law Firm, P.C.

Thank you for describing your situation. The decision to file for divorce is a difficult one, especially when there are children involved. Unfortunately, however, it is very difficult to assess how the Courts would allocate parental responsibilities (custody and parenting time) without knowing more about your particular situation. The Colorado courts make these types of decisions based upon numerous factors, all aimed at doing what is in the best interests of your child.

I would be happy to schedule a time to discuss your situation in greater detail. The fee is $150 for up to 45-minutes, and we can conduct the consultation by telephone, or in person here at the office. If you are interested, kindly contact our New Client Coordinator, Katie, at the number below. Thanks again, and we look forward to helping you, if at all possible.
