Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Relinquishment of Parental Rights

My child lives in Colorado, I live else where. Although, I have tried, I have been able to see him or have a relationship with him for 5-years. I am however, up-to-date with child support.

My ex asked me to relinquish my parental rights last year. Apparently, my son is very content with his step-dad and also has no need of my support. I initially refused, but after some thought and consideration. I thought it may be for the best.

I told her she could go ahead and start the process. She claimed she would and it has not happened.

This is probably a very obvious question, but could I start a petition to relinquish my rights?

I know this may sound a little wrong, but if he's happy with her and his step-dad and financially stable. I don't see the continuing need for me to support him when in her own words, the money is not needed. We are strangers and I have a family of my own to support.

Thank you. I appreciate the help.
