Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Choosing Not to Put-Up with a Problem Child

My husband and I recently sent my husband's 9 year old son back to his mother, to live. He was being distructive, obnoxious, out of control, stealing, yelling, throwing fits of epic proportion, etc. I had gotten to the point where I didn't know what to do with him anymore. Soon, my husband also felt this way. One Saturday morning, his son through a fit that pushed us both to the edge (he had been swearing at his father, calling him an Ass Hole & a looser), so we packed his things & my husband drove him to his mother's house, where he had been saying for sometime he wanted to be. I have a 7 month old baby. It was at the point where I was beginning to fear for my baby's safety. Don't misunderstand. I don't believe that my stepson would intentionally hurt his brother. But he had been very distructive and was even caught playing with fire. I don't feel that this is the type on influence I want for my son. And I don't feel that it would be a safe, structured environment with my stepson in the house anymore. My husband and I have, since, taken his son for visits, but he continues to behave very poorly. It's stressful & we don't want it anymore. Can his mother request a court order, forcing us to take him for visits? What can we do?

Re: Choosing Not to Put-Up with a Problem Child

If the divorce decree gives the mother primary residence, it is unlikely the court would force the father to take the child at all, given the circumstances. Mom might try to get such an order, though.
