Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Hi, Is it legal for an Employer to force employees to have the United Way taken out of their paycheck? My wife even asked them to stop taking it out during the Summer,they said you have to wait till Sept. Well here it is end of Nov. and it's being taken out. Thank-you very much.
