It depends on a number of factors. If your home is in DC, it may lose its homestead exemption. If you move, it may change the means test numbers for eligibility for Chapter 7 (and payment amounts for Chapter 13), may affect your ability to claim certain exemptions, and otherwise have a major impact on your case. See a bankruptcy lawyer before you do anything in order to preserve all of your options. We practice in DC (as well as MD and VA), if that is where you live, or are moving to or from.
