Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

I was paid severance in a lump sum. My employer never mentioned in my separation meeting that the payments would be allocated over a certain time period, nor is an allocation documented in my written legal separation agreement. When i applied for unemployment benefits, however, when called, the employer told the DC government that the payments were meant to be allocated and gave them a date so my unemployment has been denied until February. The person who told the government this was not involved in my termination and it seems my employer just made it up when called to affect me negatively. Do I have any recourse or justification for a claim.

Unemployment should have sent you information on how to file an appeal and request a hearing. If not, check their website, give them a call - or stop by.

You can also hire an attorney to represent you in the appeal. But there are deadlines.
