Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in District of Columbia

Uncle died with no will

Hi, my husband's uncle died (very sad) and has no will. His estate (houses, land and money) is worth over 2 million dollars.

He has no children or spouse, just three siblings.

In general how does this work. Does his siblings just split the assets?

It was my uncles intent that my father-in-law get the land... too bad they didn't put it in writing.

The land and most of the assets are in PA, but our uncle lived in D.C.

Re: Uncle died with no will

Your uncle's assets should be distributed according to the District of Columbia's distribution scheme for those who die intestate (without a will). And, in the situation described, it would appear that your uncle's surviving siblings would share equally in these assets under this particular scheme of intestacy.
