Unsolicited Advertising Faxes

I'm not sure if Business Law is the correct catagory, but what can be done about unsolicited fax advertising? I get several faxes a day from mortgage lenders. These faxes will come in as early as 6-7AM in the morning and as late as 11PM at night. I've been told I can sue for $1,000.00 per fax. (This advise did not come from an attorney.) It is driving me crazy all hours of the day and night!!! What can be done, if anything? Any advise you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. (I've started to save the faxes.)

First you need to notify the companies to take you off of their fax list. Once the company is notified to take you off of their list, keep track of how many times they contact you once notified. I know there are penalties for unwanted phone solicitation, I am not sure if that would incorporate/and or apply to faxes.
