If I ask someone to stop messaging me online can they be prosecuted?

Possibly for harassing phone calls. In the big picture change your phone number and/or seek an injunction unless you want to get dragged to court numerous times to see them prosecuted. In my opinion changing your phone number is probably the best choice and this person should get the picture. If not proceed to prosecuting them. If this person is threatening you then call the police.
