Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

I have had problems with my post office for over a year. Since May/June of 2008 they have stopped delivering mail addressed to my name. The mail is sent back to sender. I have been to my branch over a dozen times trying to resolve the issue and every time they tell me they've figured out the problem and it will be resolved. It never is, and they don't seem to care or take any action until I come again and tell them i'm still not getting my mail. This has caused me bank fees, late credit card payments, loss of any use with my netflix account, missed state fine for not paying a toll which eventually caused them to suspend my drivers license, among other problems. Have they broken any law, can I sue for the problems they've caused me? Is there anything I can do to prevent them from dismissing the next guy like they've done me and for taking my problems so lightly?

Thanks,

Luis

I actually experienced a similar situation myself. In my situation, after several months of going back and forth with the post office, it was determined that the problem was with the Address Management System (AMS) which didn't recognize my address. Ask your local post office for the contact information of the regional office that manages the AMS system. As far as suing the post office, unfortunately, you probably wouldn't be able to do so. There are laws that protect government entites such as post offices from being sued. This is often referred to as tort immunity. Good luck to you.
