Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Responsibility for Minor Step-Child

My step-son is 17 years old (18 in Feb. 2003) and was involved in an auto accident in another state. He lives in Louisiana with his grandmother. How can I claim NO RESPONSIBILITY for his actions to protect myself from any civil liability. His mother would like to relinquish responsibility for him as well. Can we pettition the court to make him an emancipated minor?

Thank you in advance,

Bob Womack
