Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida

At fault in accident - uninsured

I was recently in an auto accident, my fault. Only to discover I did not renew policy which expired 20 days prior to the accident. The driver ( a minor) was checked out by eMT's. They bandaged a small cut on his arm.No other injuries. The car is older model, police valued damage at 3000. my vehicles only damage is to the bumper, No $ issue for me. My concern is what is the best way to handle this situation. The people I hit are not very fluent in english, so we really can't communicate. Should I contact their ins. co. and offer to pay damages? Or wait until they contact me? or hire legal counsel immediately? I know I am in a bad spot, I just want to handle this the best way possible. Thank you for your help.

Yes you should retain an attorney in case you are contacted by the people involved, an insurance carrier, the police or DMV. Good luck.

I would suggest you consult with an attorney fluent in Spanish to act in your behalf and contact the party to attempt payment of his damages and obtaining a release showing you have no insurance. You should have him look at your policy to be sure it was cancelled or non-renewed properly.
