Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

life insurance

my wifes father recently passed away of cancer. all his propertys and what not were left to the widow. he had a life insurance policy of 25k through his work in which he left sole beneficiary to his daughter (my wife). his widow however is threatening to get a lawyer and take us to court over the life insurance, claiming that its rightfully her's. i have heard from several people that widows are automatic beneficiaries unless other wise noted. as far as we know my wife was listed beneficiary before they were married. i would like to know the legal side of this and if she has a legitimate claim against us?
