Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

probation violation and other...

Two years ago I was sentenced under the first offenders act and placed on 3 years probation. During that time I was arrested for a bogus crime in another county and was awaiting judgment there. I knew that I was going to get off on the other charge because I didnt actually do anything.

I was hired a court appointed lawyer. He was horrible. I contacted him serveral times and was told he would get back to me. I missed a court appointment because of him. The judge said if I miss another I would go to jail. I missed another. I wasn't told about the appearance.

I skipped bail and left the state. It has been almost two years now. I want to go and make things better I just don't want to serve jail time for something that could have been prevevnted. Any suggestions?

Re: probation violation and other...

My guess is there is both a bench warrant for your arrest for failure to appear and an arrest of probation warrant for technical violations of your probation as well as commission of a crime while on probation. As hard as it may be to accept the fact, straightening out the mess must begin with acknowledging where you are in the process. That means confronting the authorities and your status as a fugitive.

I strongly urge you to contact an attorney to lay it all out to determine just what you are facing. Then you can plan a strategy for addressing both problems in a way calculated to be in your best interests.

In my years of practice, it is invariably the case that matters are not a serious as they appear.

Without detail, it is impossible to comment specifically, but I would be pleased to discuss this matter with you further if you should want to call me. I have handled several cases with similar scenarios, all with good success.
