If a parent is put in a nursing home can the state take land they might have?

Maybe. Is the state paying for the nursing care - medicaid? Is the land her residence?

This is a complicated and must be handled right. GA just approved $100,000 exemption on assets subject to recovery. So the state could not take the first $100,000. They can not take any property until the person dies. There are exceptions that would allow even more property to be protected. you need to see an attorney that is knowledgable about Medicaid laws.
