Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Divorce

I have been married for 20 years and am contemplating divorce. I have stayed home and raised our 3 children ages 16, 14 and 12 while working an at-home sales business. My income has fluctuated from $20,000 - $65,000 per year additional income. My husband used my income for paying bills, vacations and sports for the boys. No money was ever put aside for retirement. If we divorce am I eligible for alimony, child support and half of his retirement income? Thank you!

Re: Divorce

More information is needed to answer your questions. Typically, the court examines all of the circumstances in determining support issues. You should make a consultation appointment with an attorney to discuss your goals and concerns. Feel free to to contact my firm in the event that you are interested in pursuing this.

Re: Divorce

The entire factual situation needs to be reviewed; however, based on what you have said, it would seem that you may well be entitled to alimony, child support and other benefits, as the facts allow. If you would like to discuss this matter, please feel free to give me a call.

Re: Divorce

There's no way to tell you how a case would turn out without far more information.

If you win custody, you certainly should receive child support. You may possibly have an alimony claim.

Retirement plans are usually treated as marital property which can be divided.

My office handles such cases. If you're in metro Atlanta, call me. You might want to get our free worksheets at www.glenashman.com and complete those as they will help at a consultation.
