Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

Would i be held responsible?

I was was cashing checks for a former friend a few months ago, because he supposedly had no back and didnt want one due to family problems such as alimony. He started working on an elderly lady's home doing repairs on it, every check that she wrote out to him, he told her to put it in my name so that i could cash them for him. Three months later she had informed me that the city has said that her repairs are not up to city code.. She said that she feels like she had been scammed and the guy who did the work is nowhere to be found. So am I held accountable for his bad work and will I have to pay back this lady's money due to the fact that my name were on the checks and i cashed them for him, even though i had nothing to do with the work????

Re: Would i be held responsible?

While this does not necessarily answer your question, the fact that you may have participated in fraud is something you should consider. Hiding assets is not something courts take lightly in alimony and child support cases, and assisting in the fraud could very well subject you to civil or criminal penalties. You may even be liable for that money. You would be wise to tell your friend to handle his financial affairs himself.
