Legal Question in Immigration Law in Georgia

permission to work

I have had some interviews for jobs and in one they told me why I didn't have my SSN and I answer them that the alien number of my card is my number

that gives me the right to work in USA and they told me that

they can not give me the last papers to fill them up and start the process to begin an employee there. Is that right? do I have to take this card

to the place or offices that expedite de SSN? or they are doing something wrong about it or do not know about this kind of cards?....the other point

of this email is something related with me and is a detail that makes me feel embarass and angry with myself. I don't know, but somehow I lost the

letter of my permission to work in here, but still I have my card (the original) and I got copies of the original letter. I have tried to looking for it in anywhere but I guess in some of the interviews I had I must

lost it but I don't know how or where. So I am pretty much worry about it, even I

have the card that is the main thing and I keep copies of the letter, I am worry because I don't know hte consecuences of this or in case that there is

not problem in the legal way, I am worry that somebody could use it as their own paper work or use

Re: permission to work

You do need a Social Security card to be able to get a paycheck. This is how the system works. However, they could hire you and just ask you to apply for a Social Security card immediately. For your future employment opportunities, obtain a Social Security card.

Re: permission to work

Your alien card is your permission to work and if the employer looks at the I-9 form that he is supposed to fill out to check your documents, he/she will see that the alien card is one of the acceptable documents. As for the missing letter, there is not much that can be done with that and it is not necessary to have it. Hope this helps.
