Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Company FMLA violation

I was with a company in the role of a contracts manager. I requested time off when my wife was due to have a baby. I was discouraged from taking this time off (4 weeks) I decided to take a week instead and notified my employer of this intention. When my wife went into labor Friday January 15th. I notified my employer I would be home. She had the baby on Tuesday January 19th I returned to work on Monday January 25th. Upon my role I was demoted from my position. All this happened in 1999. I have recently been advised that the company broke the law and I should file suit. Is this information correct and if so where can I find representation?

Need More Information

It may be better if you can contact an attorney in your local area and supply that attorney with more information. With more information, an attorney may be able to tell you if there is a violation of the FMLA. I need to know more about your situation. For instance, how many employees do your employer have; how long have you worked there, what sort of process did you go through to inform the employer of your FMLA leave, if in fact that was it. In sum, I cannot answer without knowing more information. First, one has to know if the FMLA is even applicable to the company, or even to you. You may not qualify to take that leave as of that time if certain criteria has not been met even if FMLA is applicable to your employer.
