Father In Law Death No Will

My father in law passed away a week ago. There are 4 children, he has my wife as benif of 2 different pensions, he has no estate and no will. He told my wife he wanted her to be executor, but no will. I need to know what to do to make it where my wife can deposit is unemployement checks and pay some of his bills. I cant find any info online to tell me how to handle his accounts and is unpaid bills? The other 3 children agree with my wife being the executor Thanks for any help

If there had been a Will, the procedure would known as "probating the Will". In the absence of a Will, the procedure is "administering the estate". Consult with a local attorney.

She cannot be an executor. Only estates with wills have executors.

Depending on a great deal of information that you did not provide, she may be able to file to be administrator of an intestate estate, or, if all the tests are met, it may be possible to save money and time with a "No Administration Necessary."

The choice is not a do it yourself project. Neither is doing it. You need a lawyer to help you walk through this.
