That's only done in the movies. The lawyer and executor have to follow the laws of your state and they are personally liable if they don't follow the law, so if you are entitled to receive paperwork, or an inheritance, that will come to you eventually. Probably not as fast as you'd like, but it will come. You could also hire a lawyer to protect your rights and get information faster, but obviously that's going to cost you.
