Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois
Bankrupcy
I am going to file for bankruptcy due to large medical debts I cannot pay. Should I pay off my credit card debts before filing? Will it make any difference with my credit?

When someone says "I am going to....." it suggests to me that you already have a BK lawyer. Since I perceive that to be the fact, why don't you ask this question of him/her?

It is a very bad idea to pay off any debts before filing bankruptcy. You want to keep current on secured debts like your car or mortgage, but anything else, you should stop paying. It will cause problems within your bankruptcy to be making payments to creditors before you file.
